Saving Money With Frugal Living
By Robertson Erin
Frugal living is something that you undertake for the long haul. It isn’t something you can pick and choose to do one day and not the next-that is, not if you expect to see progress toward your goal. You do have a goal, don’t you?
If not, read the final tip here first. Below are several things you need to keep in mind if you are considering a frugal lifestyle.
1. Not every frugal idea is workable for everyone. There is a balance between frugality and time that is unique for each person. Some people have time to grind their own wheat into flour and make their own pasta from scratch. Some people only have the time to do simple things. You don’t have to use every idea you hear about.
2. Start saving your savings. When you save money, you need to go ahead and put the money in a jar until you have enough to put it in the bank. If you save $20 on a shirt you didn’t buy, put that $20 in your jar. If you save $1.59 on groceries, put that money in the jar. Many grocery stores receipts will even tell you how much you save. That makes it easier for you. Spending money you save in one place on something else is still spent money.
3. Set your goals and stick with them. You have to have a reason to be frugal. Whether you want to get out of debt or go on a cruise, you have to have a goal. Don’t just leave it vague. Write down the specific steps you are going to take. Look at your goal every day. Keep it at the forefront of your money thinking. When you consider whether or not you will buy something, look at how it affects your goal.
10 Easy Tips To Save Money On Your Home Heating Bills
By Robertson Erin
With energy costs higher than they have ever been in recent history, it pays to find ways to reduce your home heating costs. I put together some tips that are easy, cost effective and will all add up to reduce your home heating bills by a significant amount! You don’t need to be Bob Villa either. Some take just a minute or two. Even small changes will add up to big savings over the course of this cold winter!
Here are the 10 tips that I have personally used to save on my home heating costs:
1. Head down to the basement and reduce the setting on your hot water thermostat by about 10 degrees. I wouldn’t go below 120-115 degrees. The adjustment dial is typically a red knob towards the bottom of the water tank.
2. While you are downstairs, make sure you have clean filters for your central air-heating unit. A dirty and clogged filter will force your unit to work much harder and stay on longer as it struggles to fresh air through the clogged filter to heat the rest of your house.
3. Check your air ducts for gaps, leaks or disconnects. If you have any disconnects or leaks in your ductwork, your heating bills could be 25% higher than they need to be if these gaps were sealed. If you can’t do this on your own, hire a professional. This expert can also clean your ducts for added efficiency.
4. Adjust your thermostat a few degrees lower. Believe me, this really adds up. It may not seem like much of a difference to you, but you will notice the difference when you get a lower bill each month!
5. While we are on the subject of thermostats, consider replacing yours if it is not programmable. The reason is, you can set the thermostat so the temperature setting in your house is lower at night than during the day, when you are awake. Also, if you are away at work during the day, you can set it for a lower temperature and have it programmed to start heating the house a little bit before you come home. These aren’t too expensive and are easy to install and configure yourself.
6. Insulate your attic. Heat rises, right? If your attic isn’t properly insulated, all of the heat in your house (and your money) goes right through the roof. Literally! This does require some effort on your part, but following through on this tip will save you a ton of money over the years. Measure the square footage of your attic and buy rolls of insulation, greater than R-13 but no higher than R-30. Wear a mask and gloves when working with insulation because it irritates the skin.
7. Find those leaks and cracks! If you were to add up all of the small cracks and holes in your house, they would probably add up to a small window, wide open, letting cold air in and hot air out. Take the time to find gaps in windows, doors, pipes, electrical and phone lines, your dryer duct and much more. Put weather-strips around your doors and windows. You can buy insulation foam that comes in a can with a straw at the top that allows you to fill in tight spaces. It expands to fill even the smallest cracks. Of all of the tasks, this was the most fun finding and filling these gaps all around the house.
8. Close the vents in rooms that you do not use. I have one room in my house that is not currently in use. I shut the hot air ducts and made sure the windows and doors were properly sealed to limit energy leakage. Why waste your money heating up extra square footage of your house that you don’t even use?
9. Open drapes and shades for all of your windows during the day to let the sun heat your home. In the evening, pull them back down for added insulation. It is amazing how much direct sunlight streaming into your home helps to heat things up.
10. Your fireplace can help and hurt your heating costs. If you are not using your fireplace, make sure the damper is closed. When it is closed, inspect the damper and feel if cold air is still leaking in. If you are using your fireplace, make sure the heating in the rest of your house is reduced or turned off.
Taking the time to implement these tips will drastically reduce your home heating bills. You can get most of them done in just one day, but the payoff will last for as long as you live there! I followed through on each one of these tips and the following winter, my bills were about 25% lower, saving about $100 a month! So roll up your sleeves follow these tips and start saving money on your heating costs!
Driving To Save Gas – 5 Great Tips!
By Robertson Erin
![]()
Everyone should be driving to save gas, or more accurately, driving in such a way that you do save gas and therefore money while also helping the environment by creating less pollution. This is all part of being green and saving money. You kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.
Your car lasts longer, costs less to run, and you feel good about the cleaner air around you, for you are now driving to save gas.
Here are 5 great tips to help you:
1. Slow things down. At 70 miles an hour you are not driving to save gas. A car engine operates most efficiently at around 55 miles an hour. At that speed you will burn the gas you need and waste as little as possible. You will also get to where you are going just fine, so keep the speed down.
2. Every time you plunge your foot to the floor, or brake hard, you are not driving to save gas – you are wasting it. Sure, it may look macho, but everything about your car suffers, and so does your pocket. When you are driving to save gas you will drive gently. You will accelerate moderately and brake smoothly. Always anticipate the need to slow down so that you don’t have to slam the brakes on at the last moment, or corner harder than you meant to. Driving to save gas comes easy when you think ahead.
3. Keep your tires properly inflated. Your engine uses some 20% of its efforts just overcoming the resistance of tire rolling. That percentage figure increases when the tires are under-inflated. The amount of gas you burn increases too. Keep your tires inflated at the manufacturers recommended level at all times, and only then will you start driving to save gas.
4. Lighten the load in your car to a minimum at all times. We’re not talking about passengers here, but the junk that most people carry around with their cars. Go through the trunk and dump anything you don’t absolutely need. Do the same in the car’s interior. You will be surprised at just how much you have accumulated. It could be as much as 100 pounds. Carrying that much excess weight is not driving to save gas!
5. Only run your car’s engine when you actually need it. Consider this: it has been estimated that customers sitting in line in idling cars at Burger King waste an amazing 16 million gallons of gas a year. That’s certainly not driving to save gas! Starting your car uses about the same amount of gas as it will burn in one minute when idling. If you think you will be waiting longer than a minute, switch off. Driving to save gas is mostly common sense with a little thought. You can do it!

Live Green and Save Money
By Robertson Erin
We all want to live green and save money at the same time, and we can too. Kermit the Frog was wrong when he said, “It ain’t easy being green.” It’s really easy, and highly effective too, if you know how. This article will provide you with 5 essential steps you can start taking today to live green and save money.
1. Turn your heater thermostats down one or two degrees in winter, and turn your air conditioning thermostats up one or two degrees in summer. If we all did this, the combined difference would be phenomenal. We’d still feel warm in winter and cool in summer, so learn how to live green and save money with your heating and cooling appliances.
2. The other appliance that needs your attention is your washing machine. Start washing your clothes in cold water. Modern powders work just as efficiently in cold water as hot. Most of the energy that goes into a clothes wash is in heating up the water, so you will save on electricity, live green and save money too.
3. When your clothes are nice and clean, don’t throw them into the dryer. Unless it’s pouring rain, hang them out to air dry. It’s what your grandmother did, and she managed just fine. She may have liked having a dryer, but they weren’t around back then, so she just had to live green and save money. You can too!
4. Compact fluorescent light bulbs are a dream come true for anyone who wants to live green and save money. They burn just 25% of the electricity that a standard light bulb burns, and they can last up to 10 times longer. Change your old bulbs today!
5. Try to consume a little less of everything, from electricity, to gas in the car, to the food you eat. Take time to write out a shopping list, and stick to it. If you feel the impulse to buy something you don’t really need, get into the habit of waiting 24 hours, then review it. The chances are you either won’t want it any more, or you will have forgotten about it.
It’s easy to live green and save money. You just have to give it some thought. Get into a routine that works and before you know it, you will find yourself in the situation where you live green and save money every day.

Is That Internet Business A Pyramid Scheme? Here Is How To Tell
By Robertson Erin
In world where their’s a myriad of home based businesses it can be difficult and time consuming to find the one that works, and that will put you into profit, while freeing up most of your time.
There are lot of systems out there that pride them selves on tons of BOGUS software and products such as: e-books outdated software and other fluff that they put up to front that they in fact a real work at home business, when in fact its just a cloak for reselling the business and by definition is defined as a ‘a pyramid scheme’.
The 1980’s saw a ton of these rise and fall quickly leaving the guys at the bottom nothing, and fat wallet for owner. Today there is internet go figure. This is why its important when looking at any business to evaluate the product for REAL MARKET VALUE, this will be the greatest indicator of success. First of all pyramid schemes have no real product ( or pretend to such as old software, e-books and other no use junk people will never buy. Perfect examples of this are: big ticket to wealth, road map to riches, passport to wealth, perfect wealth formula, craig garcia and michael corcoran s edc, edc gold and edc diamond.
This is a common tactic you will see in over hype internet businesses and are a tell tale sign of a flat outright scam. Often these so called products are a cover up for a pyramid scheme, it just astounds me how many so called businesses online and abroad are blatant pyramid schemes. No there’s nothing wrong with having a sign up fee as long as legit products are being sold, not just the opportunity that will definitely crumble the pyramid leaving you in the rumble and the top point or owners wealthy. Just ask around and see if anyone involved with the business your looking at really made a dime, because this so rare. However if you can read between the lines you’ll learn the truth that they only sell the business. Even if you are comfortable with just reselling the business I can guarantee that only the original few that first joined are going to have the bulk of the sales and continue to parade their “heavy hitters” over and over again as if you too will make millions, while everyday there on forth the market becomes over saturated and sales slow to a trickle and inevitably the business implodes and crashes down on your dream of being rich. The END.
For me, I like to blog and I like to make money. I don’t jump into get rich quick things that have little chance of success. So, I have started my like blog to make money enterprise. I have found the tools and products that have helped me to gradually become successful. However, just like anything that actually makes money, it takes hard work.
Are you looking at an Internet Biz Opp? Does that biz opp have a bunch of 2nd rate e-books and old software that no one in their right mind would ever really buy. Are you told that people really do sell that junk, only to find out on closer inspection they only sell and resell the business. Well then you probably uncovered another garden variety pyramid scheme infesting the internet left and right.
Saving Money Around The House
By Robertson Erin
You spend the most time there, so it makes sense that your house represents your largest expense. Whether it is the day to day upkeep, and operating expenses, repair projects, or the rent or mortgage payment, you allocate a big portion of your income to your home. Because you spend so much money on it, take advantage of the following tips to start trimming your budget.
If you want to possibly save hundreds of dollars a year on your electric bill, make sure that any new appliances you buy are energy efficient. You can find this information on the Energy Guide Labels that federal law requires of all major appliances.
Call your utility program and ask them if they have any cost saving programs such as load management programs or off hour rate programs. Enrolling in these could save you a substantial amount of money.
Ask your electric and/or gas company if they do a free or low cost home audit. They can identify ways for you to save hundreds of dollars a year on heating and air conditioning and often they will help you implement their suggestions for free.
Go over your phone bill and see if there are charges on it for services you don’t use, like three way calling or call waiting. You can save about $50 a year if you eliminate unused services.
When the fireplace is not in use, keep the flue damper tightly closed. A chimney is designed specifically for smoke to escape, so until you close it, warm air escapes—24 hours a day!
If you use electricity to heat your home, consider installing an energy-efficient heat pump system. Heat pumps are the most efficient form of electric heating in moderate climates, providing three times more heating than the equivalent amount of energy they consume in electricity. A heat pump can trim the amount of electricity you use for heating as much as 30% to 40%.
You can cut the amount of water you use showering in one year in half, by installing low flow shower heads.
Insulate your water heater and turn the thermostat on it down a few degrees, to save quite a bit on your bill.
Carefully placed trees can help to heat a cool your house. Studies show that just 3 trees strategically planted to give shelter and shade can save you up to $250 a year on heating and cooling.
Provide high efficiency lighting to your home by using linear fluorescent and energy efficient fluorescent compact lamps in your fixtures. They last 6-10 times longer and use less energy.
Use solar pathway lights in your yard to provide nighttime light. It costs less than using electricity to run security lamps.
Refrigerators with freezers on the top are more efficient and therefore more cost effective than those with freezers on the side.
Switching your washing machines temperature from hot to warm or cold cuts a loads energy use in half.
Gas dryers are less expensive to operate than electric dryers. The cost of drying a typical load of laundry in an electric dryer is 30 to 40 cents compared to 15 to 25 cents in a gas dryer. That savings adds up over the course of a year.
When you are drying jeans in the dryer, throw a towel or two in with them. The towel will draw moister from the jeans, cutting down on dry time.
With a little thought and minimal effort you can save hundreds of dollars a year around your house. Start saving today, and imagine how much more money you will have in your bank account in the future.
8 Tips to Save Money on Groceries
By Robertson Erin
The average family’s grocery bill is usually one of the higher numbers on the family budget. There can be an enormous difference in what each family spends on their groceries, depending on many factors, such as whether they buy name brand, more meat, etc.
The good news is that this allows for a large amount of savings if we decide to be frugal with our shopping. Following a few simple tips will have you well on your way to saving a few bucks.
1.) Make a meal plan. You’ll know exactly what you need from the store before you go.
2.) Watch for specials and coupons in store newsletters, and plan your meals around them.
3.) Make a list and stick to it. If it’s not on the list, don’t buy it.
4.) Don’t shop when you’re hungry. That way you won’t be tempted to buy things that you don’t need.
5.) Shop alone. Count on your bill being higher when you bring your spouse or children.
6.) Only buy things you know you’ll use. For example, if your family doesn’t like broccoli, don’t buy broccoli in the hopes that they’ll eat healthier this week.
7.) Keep your eyes on the items on the bottom shelf where the prices are lower.
8.) Buy store brands when the quality is the same. Most of the time, it actually is the same product in a different package.
It’s pretty easy to be frugal once you realize how much money you’re actually saving with these simple steps. Keep a log of your grocery bills, so you can see how much of a difference you are making.
Bad Credit Maintenance
By Robertson Erin
Maintaining a good credit is important to your financial life. There are people who experience poor credit report due to neglect and improper report reviewing. There are even others who went through the process of repairing their credit and somehow managed to maintain good credit after. If you do not want to ever need a credit repair, good credit maintenance is advisable. Luckily, simple steps can help one in proper maintenance of a good credit.
The Importance of a Good Credit
Credit history plays in important role in determining whether you are qualified for a loan or not. The credit is really worth a thousand words and it says so much about the consumer. Not only can it affect your finance but other aspects of your life as well.
Several counselors and services agree upon on thing: maintaining a good credit is important in leading a fit financial life.
Most people do not realize that landlords, employers and companies checks credit scores before making a decision on whether or not they can grant a contract or a job. The scores and credit report can help companies decide whether you pay your bills on time or if you have filed for bankruptcies. By doing so, they can use the information on your credit report as a future marker of your credit worthiness.
What You Can Do
Although maintaining a good credit can be quite a challenge, there is no better way to keep you safe from debt than by carefully following your spending and always sticking on a budget. Budgets are important as they can aid you in controlling your finances, decreasing your debt and building a strong credit
history.
In the topic of managing your debt, the first thing you can do is to keep track of your spending habits. You can do this by creating drafts of what you spend and track anything that you might owe. Monthly statements should be reviewed when they arrive and always check for any possible inconsistencies. Additionally, always remember to report themimmediately.
To keep your account in good standing, always remember to pay the creditor on or before the due date normally printed on the statement. Do not skip on any payments and strive to pay more than the minimum or, if possible, pay the whole balance each month.
Another step you can take is not to exceed your credit limit. The available credit is the amount left on your credit usually represented by the difference between your credit limit and your outstanding balance. Always remember to maintain the balance lower than the limit
of the credit. Additionally, make sure to add any charges you made after the closing date to your Outstanding Balance included in the monthly statement; doing so can help you find out just how much credit you have left.
Sticking to a budget is also important. Typically, 10% of your monthly income should be used in paying your credit lines, bills or personal loans. However, in case you are paying more, it is time to reconsider your habits of spending. Keep out of impulsive buying
since they are especially hard to pay off.
Lastly, control your finances. It is advisable to create a payment plan, which can help you get on the right track. This kind of scheme should incorporate those whom you need to pay and the amount of the payment each month. Normally, other people limit their credit usage until the finances are under control; this is an excellent method of controlling your finances.
